The Speedrite 3000 Unigizer puts out 3 joules and is rated to power up to 120 acres or 30 miles of fence. It runs on 110-volt mains, on a 12-volt deep cycle battery, or on solar, and Speedrite lists it as compatible with a 30 watt solar panel. This is a good middle-of-the-range unit for an acreage or a small to mid-sized grazing operation — enough power to hold a few quarters of cross fencing without buying more energizer than the job needs. The dual-power design is the real argument for it out here. You can plug it into the shop in the off season, take it out on a battery for summer pasture, or leave it on solar where there is no service for miles. Do not size it to the number on the box. The 120 acre and 30 mile figures assume a fence in good shape: solid grounding, sound insulators, wire clear of grass and steel. Around here you are also fighting drifted snow shorting the bottom strand, frost lifting posts out of line, and heavy June growth. If your fence sits near the top of the rating, step up rather than hoping. And put in more ground rod than you think you need — frozen and dry soil both conduct poorly, and a weak ground makes a good energizer act like a small one.
