The Speedrite 2000 Unigizer puts out 2 joules and is rated to power up to 80 acres or 20 miles of fence. Like the rest of the unigizer range, the same box runs on 110-volt house power, on a 12-volt deep cycle battery, or on solar, which is what makes it worth having on a place where the fence job changes with the season. That flexibility earns its keep here. Plug it in at the corral over winter, clip it to a battery when you move onto summer pasture, or set it up with a solar panel and leave it on a quarter with no power at the corner. Speedrite lists the 2000 as compatible with a 20 watt solar panel. It comes with a battery lead, a 110 V power adaptor and a fence lead set. Size it with some room to spare. The 80 acre and 20 mile ratings assume a clean fence with good grounding, decent insulators and grass off the wire. Green growth in June, snow drifted onto the bottom line in January, and frost-heaved posts pulling wire into steel all draw power away from where you want it. Get the ground system right first — most weak-fence complaints trace back to too little ground rod rather than too little energizer.
