The Speedrite 18000i Unigizer puts out 18 joules and is rated to power up to 1,300 acres or 120 miles of fence. That is community-pasture territory — the sort of job where one energizer is feeding wire across several sections and you cannot easily get out to check it every day. It runs on 110-volt mains, a 12-volt battery, or solar, so the same unit works whether it is mounted in a yard shed or sitting on a panel out in the middle of nowhere. It uses Speedrite's Cyclic Wave technology, has a day/night sensor with adjustable pulse speeds, an LCD voltage display, ground monitoring and a low energy terminal for wire near gateways or handling areas. It is remote capable, though the remote is sold separately. It ships with battery leads and a 110 V power adaptor and carries a three-year warranty. Coverage figures assume a fence in reasonable order. Drifted snow bridging to the bottom wire, frost-lifted posts pulling insulators out of line, and summer growth on the line will all pull voltage down. Grounding is where big energizers live or die — an 18 joule unit needs a serious ground bed, and in dry or deeply frozen soil that means more rod than you would expect. Test at the far end of the run, not at the terminals.
