Details
The risk in subcutaneous work is not the injection, it is the second before it. The animal shifts, the needle goes somewhere it should not, and either the placement is wrong or somebody has a needle-stick to deal with. The Sekurus guard is built around that moment. A spiked guard grips and tents the skin first, and a two-stage trigger holds the needle back until you commit, so you can wait out the movement instead of chasing it. This is the 12 mL tube-fed model, selectable from 2.5 to 12 mL in 0.5 mL increments. Tenting the skin also does the placement work for you, lifting a fold clear of the muscle so delivery lands in the subcutaneous space rather than deeper, and it lets the whole thing be done one-handed from a safer distance than a two-handed technique allows. The spikes on the guard need to be clean and sharp to grip properly, so check them along with everything else and keep them free of dried product. Flush the barrel and the tube with warm water at the end of the day. Whether a treatment is given subcutaneously or by another route, and at what dose, is decided by your veterinarian and the product label.
