Half a millilitre is a small enough measure that a bubble of air in the barrel can cost you a meaningful share of the dose, and at that volume you often cannot see the shortfall going in. The forward selectable design deals with this by using a positive stroke that displaces the entire contents of the barrel at every dose setting, so trapped air is pushed out rather than compressed and re-expanded shot after shot. Dosing runs from 0.05 to 0.5 mL, set in 0.05 mL increments on the collar. The bottle sits directly on the gun rather than on a tube, which keeps the whole assembly in one hand and removes the tube as a thing to snag on gates and hurdles. Barrel orientation is adjustable, so the bottle can be angled to suit how you hold it and to keep the pickup submerged as the bottle empties. Prime it and purge the air before the first animal, and check the dose against the graduations rather than trusting the dial alone. Afterwards, strip the barrel, flush with warm water and let the parts dry before reassembly, because the seals last far longer when product is not left to sit in them.
