Larger doses on mature cattle put more strain on a gun than the small stuff does: more volume per pull, more refill cycles, and more chance of the operator giving out before the pen does. The 5 mL barrel here is set up for that work, with a dose collar that runs from 0.5 to 5 mL in 0.5 mL steps. Forward selectable means the plunger begins its stroke at the front of the barrel and sweeps the full barrel volume at every setting. The practical benefit is that air introduced during a bottle change gets driven out on the next stroke instead of hiding at the back of the barrel and quietly shorting the measure. The bottle mounts directly onto the gun and the barrel orientation adjusts, so a full bottle can be balanced rather than fought. Run a few strokes into a jug to prime and clear air before the first animal. After use, take the barrel off, flush everything through with warm water, and dry the components before they go back together. Ask your veterinarian which product suits the animals in front of you, and follow the label for the dose.
