The difference between a variable dose and a selectable one shows up when more than one person is using the gun. A variable collar can be nudged anywhere, while a selectable one indexes to set positions and stays there, so the dose the second operator delivers is the dose the first one chose. This is the premium body at 5 mL, selectable from 0.5 to 5 mL in 0.5 mL steps, fed from a tube so the bottle stays off the handpiece. Needle connection across this range is offered as a metal luer lock or a plastic luer tip depending on the build, so check which one is on yours before ordering needles. The premium body also allows barrel orientation to be adjusted to suit the operator. Prime the line and purge air before the first animal, and check the delivered volume into a graduated cup if the gun has been sitting over winter. Warm water through the barrel and the tube at the end of the day is most of the maintenance, and O-rings are the usual wear item.
