Details
Drenching goes wrong in two places: the dose drifting over a long run, and the nozzle. A selectable dose collar handles the first by indexing to set positions instead of sliding freely, so the volume stays where it was put even after a few hundred head have gone through. Capacity is 30 mL, which covers the larger single volumes that mature cattle work calls for without refilling every second animal. Nozzles for this range are made in 90 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm lengths. The longer ones reach past the back of the tongue on a big animal, while the shorter ones suit smaller stock and give more control in a tight crush. Check which nozzle came with yours before assuming it fits the class of animal you are working. The nozzle is the consumable here, and barrels and valves generally outlast several of them. Flush the whole gun through with warm water at the end of a run rather than letting product dry in the valves, and store it with the plunger relaxed. Which product to drench with, and at what volume, is a question for your veterinarian and the product label.
