Granules are the outdoor format. They spread easily over the ground where ants are nesting — along foundations, in lawn and patio edges, around steps and driveway cracks, over visible mounds — and they get down into thatch and soil where a surface spray would sit on top and wash off. A 500 g container covers a house perimeter or several problem areas. The usual approach is to treat the nest itself where you can find it, and to lay a band around the building to intercept ants coming in from elsewhere. Check the label for whether the product should be watered in after application; many granular products need moisture to release, and skipping that step is the most common reason people conclude they do not work. Applying just before a rain, or watering lightly afterward, makes a real difference. Timing matters too. Ants are most active and most likely to pick up a treatment in warm weather, and a treatment laid down in cold spring soil accomplishes little. Re-treat as the label allows if activity returns; one application rarely settles a large or long-established colony. This is a registered pesticide. Read the label for approved sites, target species, application rate, and cautions — particularly around vegetable gardens, water, and pets. Keep children and animals off treated areas for the period the label specifies, do not apply where granules will wash into a storm drain or a water body, and sweep granules off hard surfaces back onto soil rather than leaving them where they will run off. Store sealed, dry, and out of reach of children.
