Five gallons full is somewhere around twenty kilograms of water and steel. That is the point where top fill stops being a preference and becomes the sensible choice, because nobody wants to invert that twice a day. Fill it where it sits with a hose, screw the cap down, and the vacuum does the rest. Water feeds from the sealed reservoir into the trough and holds a steady level as the flock drinks, with no float or valve in the system. Good fit for a mid size flock, or anywhere you would rather fill once a day than twice. In hot weather birds drink far more than people expect, and capacity that felt generous in May is marginal in July. Set it level before you fill it. Cap, handle, plug and o-ring are all stocked separately, since those are the parts that wear out long before the fountain does.
