There is a version of almost every piece of poultry equipment that costs three times as much and does the same job. This is the other version. Galvanized steel, no moving parts, no plastic to go brittle in a cold barn, and a price that makes it reasonable to own several. Galvanizing is what makes cheap metal viable in a brooder. Bare steel in a warm damp environment full of droppings rusts out inside a season. Galvanized handles it, gets hosed off, and comes back next spring. The trade off is capacity. This is a feeder you top up rather than fill and forget, so if you are running a large batch of chicks look at the bulk feeder with the lid instead. For a small brooder, a second feeder in a bigger one, or a spare on the shelf, it is hard to argue with the price.
