The cap on a top fill fountain is not just a lid. It has to seal, because that seal is what creates the vacuum holding water up in the reservoir and feeding the trough at a controlled rate. A cap that leaks air lets the whole reservoir dump into the trough and out onto the floor. So if your fountain has started flooding, or the level in the trough will not hold, check the cap before you decide the fountain is finished. A cracked cap or a worn seal looks exactly like a broken fountain and it is a twenty dollar part. This is also the carrying handle, which is the other thing that goes. Handles get stood on, driven over, and left in the wrong place. Fits Millside top fill fountains.
