Stainless hub needles are the reusable kind. Unlike a disposable, they are built to be cleaned and sterilised between uses, which suits people processing small numbers regularly who would rather maintain a good needle than throw one away. Twelve to a pack keeps a rotation going through a day. Sixteen gauge is a common size for cattle work at moderate volumes. Whether it is the right gauge for what you are giving, and the right length, comes off the product label or from your veterinarian rather than from habit. Reusable does not mean forever. Check every needle before it goes back in the pack. Any burr on the point, any bend in the shaft, any sign the hub has gone loose, and it belongs in the sharps container. A blunt needle is harder on the animal, harder on you and harder on the carcass. Clean them promptly instead of letting product dry inside, sterilise them the way your vet advises, and store them dry in a case where the points are protected.
