Blank white one-piece tags, twenty-five to a bag. A one-piece tag folds through the ear and locks on itself, so there is no separate button to line up and drop in the mud. Some people simply prefer them, and if that is you, the tag you buy should be one you can get again next year. White is the workhorse colour, because a hand-written number in black reads from further away on white than on anything else. Plenty of outfits run white for the base herd number and keep colours for year of birth or for a management group. Write the numbers before you go to the chute, not during. Use a proper tag marking pen rather than whatever marker is riding in the truck, since the wrong ink fades to nothing by August. Let them dry fully before you bag them back up. Store tags out of the sun, because UV is what turns plastic tags brittle, and check the applicator pin before a tagging day. A dull or bent pin is behind most of the tags that later tear out.
