Twelve millilitres is the general cattle size, and the slip tip version is the one crews reach for when speed through a group is the priority. Needles push on and pull off, so a fresh one goes on between animals without fumbling threads in the cold, and the used one drops straight into the sharps container. Clear polypropylene barrel, large graduations you can read across a headgate, latex free, sterile and single use in tamper-evident packaging. A 12ml barrel puts noticeably more force behind the tip than a 3 or a 6 does, which is where the slip tip starts asking something of you. Seat the needle with a firm straight push, not a twist, and re-seat it if it has been knocked. If you are working with a thick fluid or a fine needle and finding yourself leaning on the plunger, that is the situation a luer lock handles better. Cold makes everything stiffer and the fit less forgiving, so check it more often in winter. Use it once, bin the whole unit, and take dose and route questions to your veterinarian or the product label.
