If a place only stocks one needle, it is usually this one. Sixteen gauge by one inch handles most of what comes through a commercial chute on mature beef cattle: enough bore to move fluid at a decent clip, enough length to reach muscle on an average cow, and stout enough that it does not fold the first time an animal lurches. Ideal grinds a tri-bevelled, anti-coring tip on a regular-wall stainless cannula and adds an anti-friction coating so it enters with less push. The aluminum hub is ISO colour coded by gauge and the cartridge is tamper evident. Sterile, single use, 100 to the box. Buying the workhorse size in a hundred-count box is the point: it means you actually change needles instead of running the same one through forty head because you are down to your last few. A dull needle takes more force, tears more tissue and is more likely to break. Swap regularly, bin used ones in a sharps container, and leave product-specific questions to your veterinarian or the label.
