Fourteen gauge is the big-bore end of the range. The wide lumen moves thick, heavy-bodied fluid without you leaning on the plunger, which is why it turns up in mature cow and bull work rather than anything light. At one inch it is a short 14, deep enough to sit in muscle on most grown cattle without burying to the hub. Ideal builds these on a regular-wall stainless cannula with a tri-bevelled, anti-coring tip that is computer ground, so the point stays honest for more than a couple of head. The hub is aluminum and colour coded to the ISO standard, and the cartridge is tamper evident, which matters when you are digging through a cold shop drawer looking for the right size. Sterile, single use. A 14 leaves a real hole, so it is the wrong pick for anything a finer needle will handle just as well. Change needles regularly through a run, and put anything bent or dulled straight into a sharps container rather than the shop garbage. Route, site and dose come off the product label or from your veterinarian, not from the needle box.
