One hundred sterile single-use needles, 14 gauge by an inch and a half, aluminum hub on a stainless cannula for mature cattle.
Details
The extra half inch is the whole reason this size exists. On a grown cow carrying condition, a shorter needle can stop in hide and fat instead of reaching muscle. An inch and a half gets through. Paired with a 14 gauge bore, it is a cow-and-bull needle and nothing smaller. The cannula is regular-wall stainless with a computer-ground, tri-bevelled anti-coring tip, set in an aluminum hub colour coded to ISO gauge standards. The cartridge carries a tamper-evident seal. These are sterile and meant to be used once and binned. A long needle in an animal that is not properly held is how you end up with a bent shaft or a broken one. Get the head caught and the body squeezed before you go near it, and keep your hand out of the way if she kicks. Cold makes hide tougher and hands clumsier, so slow the run down in January rather than forcing it. Change needles often through a big group, and dispose of every used one in a proper sharps container. Anything to do with what goes through the needle is a conversation for your veterinarian.
