Details
Long and fine is the hardest combination to keep straight. An inch and a half of 18 gauge bows under resistance and takes a permanent set if an animal jerks, which makes it the size where a detectable, thick-wall needle earns its money. The D3 cannula is built heavier than a conventional needle of the same gauge, and a break is designed to be picked up by x-ray or magnetic detection at line speed. The hub is brass with the gauge stamped into the metal, readable long after a printed hub would have worn off. Red cartridges with ISO colour-coded, tamper-evident seals keep the detectable stock obviously separate. Disposable, 100 to the box. Use this one when you genuinely need depth without a wide bore, not out of habit. Restrain the animal properly before the needle goes in, keep the entry square rather than angled, and stop the moment one feels soft or bent. Cold weather makes hide tight and cattle jumpy, so slow the run down. Sharps container for the used ones, count them out and back, and take product questions to your veterinarian.
