Three quarters of an inch keeps the point shallow while the 16 gauge bore keeps fluid moving, which suits work under the hide on cattle with enough thickness that a shorter needle does not clear the skin cleanly. Short needles break less often than long ones, but they still break, and on a crew running big numbers the detectable version takes that worry off the table. The D3 uses a thick-wall cannula and a precision-ground tip to resist bending and snapping, and a broken fragment is designed to be found by x-ray or magnetic detection at plant line speed. The hub is brass with the gauge stamped in. Supplied in red cartridges with ISO colour-coded, tamper-evident seals. Disposable, 100 to the box. The mistake with short needles is trusting them too far. A dull three quarter inch skates across cold, tight winter hide instead of entering, and then somebody pushes harder and things go sideways. Change needles often, keep everything clean, use a sharps container, and take route and product questions to your veterinarian or the label.
