Long and heavy is exactly the combination most likely to break, which is why this size makes the strongest case for a detectable needle. An inch and a half of 14 gauge, in a mature cow that decides to leave halfway through, puts real leverage on the shaft. The D3's thick-wall cannula is built to take more of that than a conventional needle, and if one does let go it is designed to be found by x-ray or magnetic detection at plant line speed. The brass hub carries the gauge stamped into the metal, and the needles come in red cartridges with ISO colour-coded, tamper-evident seals so there is no mistaking a detectable box for a standard one on the shelf. Disposable, 100 per box. Use the length because the cattle need it, not out of habit. Get the head caught and the animal squeezed before the needle goes anywhere near her. Change needles regularly, bin used ones in a sharps container, count them, and follow your quality program's procedure if one goes missing. Product questions go to your veterinarian or the label.
