Details
The D3 is Ideal's detectable needle. If one does break off in an animal, the design is made to be picked up by x-ray or magnetic detection at line speed downstream, which is why packers and anyone selling into that chain care about them. The thick-wall cannula and precision-ground tip are aimed squarely at stopping the break happening in the first place. At 14 gauge by one inch this is a heavy-cattle needle: wide bore for thick, heavy-bodied fluid, short enough to sit in muscle on a grown cow without burying to the hub. The hub is brass with the gauge stamped straight into the metal, so it stays readable after a season in a dusty box. They ship in red cartridges with ISO colour-coded, tamper-evident seals. Disposable, 100 to the box. Detectability is a backstop, not a licence to be careless. Restrain properly, change needles through the run, never use a bent one, and account for your needles at the end of a session. Record and report a broken needle the way your program requires, and talk to your veterinarian about anything to do with the product itself.
