Dr. Frank's works on a principle its designer, a veterinarian who specialised in bovine obstetrics, built the tool around: traction on the calf and counter-thrust against the cow at the same time, which encourages the pelvis to spread and works with the cow rather than simply overpowering her. The cam system holds uniform tension and does not slip or let the jack back up, which is the failing of cruder designs. It ships with a 45 inch OB chain and a 23 inch breechen strap and assembles in a few minutes. The rods are smooth and unscrew, which is worth more than it sounds: a jack that comes apart fits in a truck box, cleans properly and does not sit in a corner of the shed collecting manure until next February. Made in the USA. Jack assembly, handle, cams and springs kit, breechen strap and web strap are all available separately. Nothing about a good puller replaces judgement. Know the difference between a calf that needs help and one that needs a veterinarian, and stop early. Wash it down after every use, dry it, and check the straps and chain for wear before calving starts, not during.
