Doktor Doom Long Lasting Residual Insecticide for Horses is a ready-to-use, water-based permethrin spray registered with Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency as Pest Control Product Registration No. 35104, marketing class Domestic. The registrant is 753146 Alberta Ltd. o/a Ultrasol Industries of Edmonton, Alberta. Guarantee: permethrin 0.5%; the label also states that it contains 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one at 0.0193% as a preservative. This listing is the 1 L trigger-spray bottle; the registration covers container sizes from 250 mL to 4 L. The label describes it as ready to use, with no mixing necessary, applied directly with the attached trigger sprayer or as a wipe-on. The label's scope is narrow and worth reading before you buy: "For use on horses and ponies only" and "Use on show, race, work or pleasure horses/ponies only. DO NOT use on horses/ponies intended for slaughter." It is registered to protect horses and ponies "from attacks of black flies, face flies, house flies, horn flies, horse flies and mosquitoes." Application, as the label directs: "HOLD CONTAINER UPRIGHT. SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING." Prior to treatment, "thoroughly brush horse/pony to remove excess dirt and dust and remove mucous secretions from face of the horse/pony." Spray method: "Apply a light, uniform spray to thoroughly coat the hair of the horse/pony, while brushing lightly against lay of the hair. DO NOT wet horse's/pony's skin." Target the areas commonly attacked by the listed pests, "such as the legs, flanks and topline," and "DO NOT apply as a spray to the face of horse/pony." For the face and other sensitive areas the label gives a wipe-on method: moisten (not to the point of dripping) a clean soft cloth, sponge or mitt with product and rub it thoroughly over the hair to be protected, rubbing against the hair growth, paying attention to the legs, shoulders, shanks, neck and facial areas. The label also explains how to prime the trigger sprayer (turn the nozzle a half turn counter-clockwise and pump 10 to 15 times) and says to flush the sprayer and hose with water after each use. Precautions, quoted from the label: "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN." Humans: "May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Avoid breathing spray mist. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Wear rubber gloves while handling this product. DO NOT contaminate food." Animals: "Do not apply directly to eyes and mouth of animal. Do not wet the skin, nor cover horses immediately after treatment. Do not contaminate feed." Environmental: "Toxic to aquatic organisms. Toxic to birds. Toxic to bees. Toxic to beneficial insects." Storage: "Store product in a cool and dry place, away from open flames and heat sources." Disposal: "Do not reuse container. Wrap and dispose of empty container with household garbage."
