Horse
Dewormers
Pipestone Farm Supply lists seven horse dewormers, each named with its active ingredients so you can match it to your veterinarian's program: Bimeda Equimax (ivermectin 1.87% and praziquantel 14.03%), Merial Eqvalan Gold paste (ivermectin 1.55% and praziquantel 7.75%), Merial Panomec paste 6.42 g (ivermectin 1.87%), Golden Horseshoe Powermectin (ivermectin 1.87%), Zoetis Quest gel (2% moxidectin), Zoetis Quest Plus gel (2% moxidectin and 12.5% praziquantel) and Zoetis Strongid-P paste 23.6 g (pyrantel pamoate). These are veterinary drugs regulated by Health Canada: dose by body weight using the syringe markings, read the label for the parasites each product is registered for, the minimum age and the dosing interval, and rotate or test according to your veterinarian's advice rather than a fixed calendar. Pick up in Millet or order online for Canada-wide shipping. Ivermectin paste for horses in Canada: four of the seven are ivermectin pastes. Two are ivermectin only, both at 1.87% - Merial Panomec paste 6.42 g syringe (DIN 02237867) and Golden Horseshoe Powermectin (DIN 02279002). Two pair ivermectin with praziquantel - Bimeda Equimax (ivermectin 1.87% and praziquantel 14.03%, DIN 02276593) and Merial Eqvalan Gold paste (ivermectin 1.55% and praziquantel 7.75%, DIN 02290162). The Canadian DIN is printed on each product page with a link to the Health Canada Drug Product Database entry, so you can check the registered label yourself. Which one your horse needs depends on the parasites your veterinarian wants covered; the product pages quote each label's indications, dose per kg of body weight, warnings and storage. Our guide, Horse dewormers by active ingredient, walks through ivermectin, moxidectin, praziquantel and pyrantel and what the labels say about each. Moxidectin and pyrantel dewormers for horses in Canada: the other three are Zoetis products. Zoetis Quest gel is moxidectin 2% (20 mg per mL, DIN 02231660), and Zoetis Quest Plus gel pairs moxidectin 2% with praziquantel 12.5% (DIN 02276763). Both labels cover healthy horses and ponies 4 months of age or older, and Quest Plus adds adult tapeworms (Anoplocephala perfoliata) to the list. Zoetis Strongid-P paste 23.6 g is pyrantel pamoate, the equivalent of 3.6 g of pyrantel base per syringe (DIN 00433780), labelled for horses and foals over 8 weeks of age, with separate label doses for roundworms and tapeworms. Praziquantel is also in two of the ivermectin pastes above: Bimeda Equimax and Merial Eqvalan Gold. Each product page quotes its Health Canada label: the indications, dose per kg of body weight, warnings and storage.
