Not every feed comes in a fifty pound bag, and not every feed should share a container. Supplements, chick starter, scratch, a specific ration for one animal, dog food, birdseed. Once you are running more than one, small containers stop being a compromise and start being the point. This one holds 7 gallons, about 26 litres, which takes a 25 lb (11 kg) bag. It is small enough to lift full and carry to where the feeding actually happens, rather than needing a scoop trip back to a central bin. The lid locks. That keeps it shut against weather, rodents and anything with a nose, and it means the drum can be stacked or transported without the top coming off in the back of a truck. The moulded plastic body has a smooth interior with nothing for feed to lodge in, and it will not corrode where a metal container eventually does. Label the outside rather than trusting memory, and keep one drum to one product. Two similar-looking feeds in two identical unlabelled drums is a mistake waiting for a distracted morning.
