Tuff Stuff oval tank with plug 160 gal
A 606 L (160 gal) oval stock tank with a bottom drain plug, holding enough water for a decent group through a hot day.
Details
Summer is when tank capacity stops being theoretical. Cattle drink hard in the afternoon, and a tank that empties by three o'clock means somebody is standing at the pasture with a hose instead of doing something useful. 606 L (160 US gallons) buys you the margin. The tank runs about 147 by 104 cm (58 by 41 in) and stands roughly 53 cm (21 in) high, moulded in one piece with a drain plug in the base. It is a big enough footprint that it wants a level spot, because a tank rocking on a high corner will slop and undercut itself into a mud hole by August. Set it where a float valve or a hose can reach it and the drain can run away downhill. That last part gets forgotten, and it is the whole reason for buying the plug version: you want the dirty water going somewhere other than the ground you are standing on. Poly tanks tolerate freezing better than steel because they flex, but a full tank of ice will still deform a wall over a hard winter. Drain it in the fall if it is going out of service, and check the plug seal each spring before you fill.
