Tuff Stuff oval tank with plug 140 gal
A 140-gallon oval stock tank with a drain plug fitted, so cleaning it out does not mean siphoning or bailing 530 litres.
Details
The reason to pay attention to the plug on a big tank is simple arithmetic. Nobody tips 140 gallons. Without a drain you are bailing it, siphoning it or waiting for the stock to finish it before you can scrub the bottom, and a tank that is awkward to empty is a tank that gets cleaned less often than it should. This one comes with the drain plug already installed. Outside dimensions run about 142 by 97 by 51 cm (56 by 38 by 20 inches), holding 140 gallons or roughly 530 litres, moulded from recycled low-density polyethylene. That is a herd tank: enough to carry a good number of cattle or horses through a summer day between fills. The oval footprint gives a long drinking edge for the volume, so several animals can get at it at once instead of queuing at a round rim. It sits flat, and at this size it is going to stay wherever you put it, so it is worth spending the time to get the ground level and firm first. Pull the plug, sweep the bottom out and let it dry in the sun when you get the chance. The plug thread is the one thing to keep an eye on over the years; back it out and clean the seat rather than cranking it tight against grit.
