Anyone who uses this regularly works out fairly quickly that the small bottle does not last. Between a few horses through the winter, weekly applications on manes and tails, and the odd spot on a coat, 236 ml empties in a season. This is the 946 ml size, the same liquid in a quantity that suits a working barn. Nothing about the formula changes with the bigger bottle. Sulphur in a mineral oil base, with cade oil, glycerin and zinc stearate, a recipe Shapley's has been putting in bottles since 1938. It separates while it sits, so shake it hard each time before you pour. Apply it sparingly. It is rubbed into the hair at the base of the mane, along the tail bone, or into the coat with fingers or a cloth, and then left alone; no rinsing is needed between applications. Because it is oil-based it will mark clothes and stall boards, and the smell is distinctive enough that it is worth keeping away from your good jacket. Wash it out with a degreasing shampoo when you want the coat clean. Keep the bottle capped and upright on a shelf where it cannot get knocked over.
