Tangled tails cost hair. Every time a comb catches, a few strands come out, and over a season a tail thins from the bottom up. A polish that lets the comb slide through is doing more than making the horse look good. Magic Sheen is a silicone-based hair polish. It is formulated not to dry the hair the way some silicone products can, and the maker says one application repels dirt and stains for roughly a week. Horse Journal voted it a top choice for oil-free shine. Spray it on a clean coat, mane and tail, then brush in the direction the hair grows. Applied to a wet coat it gives the most shine; misted onto a dry coat it adds condition. For detangling, spray and comb through gently. It does not get washed out. Keep it off the saddle and girth area, where a slick coat is the last thing you want. The small bottle travels well and is a reasonable way to find out whether you like it.
