Ortho Slug B Gon ECO Slug and Snail Bait is a ready-to-use granular bait registered with Health Canada as ORTHO SLUG B GON ECO SLUG AND SNAIL BAIT (PCP Reg. No. 28375, Domestic class), registrant Scotts Canada Ltd. The active ingredient is iron (present as ferric phosphate) 0.28%. The label covers the 500 g and 1 kg containers; this listing is the 1 kg. The front panel also reads "Warning, contains the allergen wheat". What the label covers: it is labelled "FOR GARDENS" and names vegetable and flower gardens, ornamental shrubs, berry plants and fruit as the places it protects. The label adds: "All likely areas of infestation should be treated, especially around the perimeter of garden plots because these pests travel into plant areas from daytime refuges. They favour damp, shady places around plants." How to apply, from the label: "Scatter the bait granules on the soil around or near the plants to be protected. Apply bait evenly at approximately 5 grams per square metre. Reapply as the bait is consumed or every two weeks where snails and slugs continue to be a problem. Do not place in piles. If the ground is dry, wet it before applying bait. The soil should be moist but with little or no standing water. Do not apply to foliage or other plant parts. Evening is the best time to apply the bait, as slugs and snails travel and feed mostly by night or early morning." As arithmetic on that rate (not a label statement), 1 kg is enough for about 200 square metres per application. Precautions, as printed: "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS. May cause eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands after handling. Avoid direct application to ponds, streams and lakes." The label also says: "DO NOT contaminate irrigation or drinking water supplies or aquatic habitats by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes." First-aid directions are on the label: "Take container, label or product name and PCP Registration Number with you when seeking medical attention." Storage: "To prevent contamination, store this product away from food or feed." Disposal: "DO NOT reuse the empty containers. Dispose in household garbage. Unused or partially used products should be disposed at provincially or municipally designated hazardous waste disposal sites."
