Bed bugs live in cracks near where people sleep and travel to feed, usually at night. This trap exploits that trip. It is a shallow plastic pitfall with a textured outer wall the bugs can climb and a slick inner well they cannot climb back out of. Put one under each leg of a bed or a favourite chair and anything walking up from the floor gets caught on the way in, while anything leaving the mattress gets caught on the way down. Its most valuable use is detection, not control. Bed bugs are very hard to confirm early — people blame spiders, fleas and laundry soap for months before anyone finds the actual insect. An interceptor under each bed leg gives you a physical specimen and a rough sense of direction: catches on the outer ring mean bugs are coming from the room toward the bed, catches on the inner ring mean they are already living in the bed. That distinction changes how a treatment gets planned, and it is worth knowing before you spend money on chemicals. It will also cut down on bites while you are dealing with an infestation, but it is not a cure. It only protects the path up the legs. A bed pushed against a wall, a headboard bolted to the frame, or bedding hanging onto the floor gives bugs a bypass that no interceptor can close. Pull the bed a few inches off the wall, keep sheets and skirts off the carpet, and treat the interceptors as one part of a plan rather than the plan. Check them weekly, and leave them in place for at least two or three weeks before concluding anything — a light infestation can go days without a catch. Keep them in place after a treatment too; they are the cheapest way to tell whether the treatment actually worked. Two traps per pack, so a standard bed needs two packs. There is no pesticide involved, which makes them safe to use in a child's room, in a rental, or anywhere you would rather not spray. If you are getting catches, get a professional inspection early — bed bugs are one of the few household pests where DIY treatment frequently fails and delay makes the job substantially more expensive.
