Medi-Dart valve cap (MDVC)
Replacement valve cap for the Medi-Dart syringe, part of the valve group at the head of the barrel.
Details
A Medi-Dart syringe only works because it holds a charge of air until the needle is in the animal. That job belongs to the valve group at the head of the barrel, and the valve cap is one of its pieces, sitting alongside the valve seat, the o-ring and the needle in the assembly Medi-Dart ships as part of a complete syringe. Faults in this area do not always announce themselves. A syringe that empties slowly, only partly discharges, or bleeds down between the truck and the animal is usually telling you something in the valve group is worn rather than that the barrel or the needle is at fault. Working through the parts in order, with the o-ring first because it is the cheapest and the most likely, saves a lot of guessing. Fitment is by system. Confirm whether your syringe is the crossbow dart or the extension pole type before ordering, because the parts lists are not identical between them, and follow the assembly order in the Medi-Dart manual when you put it back together. This is a reusable component with a service life, not a per-shot consumable. Strip the syringe down and clean it after use, keep the parts lightly lubricated with castor oil, and test that the syringe holds pressure on the bench before you head out. What goes in the barrel is a matter for your veterinarian and the product label.
