Medi-Dart air pump (MDAP)

The Medi-Dart does not have a trigger in the usual sense. The energy that pushes the contents of the barrel into the animal is air, put into the tail section of the syringe beforehand with a hand pump, and released when the needle goes in. That makes the pump one of the two or three items you cannot leave in the shop. It works the way a bicycle pump works, which is deliberate. Nothing about charging a Medi-Dart needs to be complicated, and a pump that anyone can use one-handed on a tailgate in February is worth more than something clever. It is supplied with the complete kits, and this is the same pump sold on its own for anyone running a second dart or replacing one that has finally quit. Two things go wrong with pumps in this application. The hose perishes or splits, and the small inflating needle that goes into the tail section gets bent or lost. Both are stocked separately, so a pump that has stopped charging properly is often a hose or a needle away from working rather than a write-off. The pump serves the extension pole syringe, the crossbow dart and the projectile dart alike, since all three are charged the same way. It is reusable equipment. How much air a given syringe should carry, and what goes in the barrel, are matters for the Medi-Dart manual, your veterinarian and the label of the product being administered.
