Medi-Dart Sub-Q needle #6

Check what is already on your dart before ordering this one. The #6 is the top of Medi-Dart's ridge range and it is built around the newer ejection setup, which means it has to be run with the half-moon push rod and a wingnut. On an older dart still using the plain push rod it will not clear the way it is meant to. What makes it a Sub-Q rather than an IM needle is the pair of holes drilled through the side of the shaft, so the charge leaves there as well as through the solid tip. Everything else about the numbering carries across both lines: #2 through #6 describes the ridge and nothing else, with #6 the roughest and the most tenacious once it is seated. Wingnut size follows the cattle rather than the needle. Medi-Dart puts the 13 mm (1/2 in) wingnut on cows and bulls and the 9.5 mm (3/8 in) on younger cattle up to yearlings, and both work with the #6. The needle is a reusable part, good for around thirty injections on the crossbow and around fifty on the extension pole syringe, and it takes a file well when the point dulls. Whether a subcutaneous route suits the animal and the product you are handling is a question for your veterinarian and the label.
