Every Medi-Dart shot is stored as compressed air before it is ever a shot. The pump puts that air into the tail section, the tail holds it while you walk into position and draw, and it releases only when the needle is in the animal. A tail that has stopped holding turns a working dart into an expensive arrow. This is the tail section for the projectile dart, the one used with the 30 lb recurve bow system. Medi-Dart makes separate tail sections for the crossbow dart and the extension pole syringe, and none of the three interchange. Read the listing name against your own outfit rather than going by how the parts look side by side. It is worth being sure of the diagnosis before ordering. A dart that will not hold pressure is a worn o-ring far more often than it is a failed tail section, and the valve group is the next place to look after that. Both are cheaper than a tail. Change the o-ring, oil everything with castor oil, and leave the dart charged on the bench overnight to see where you stand. If the tail really is finished, replacing it alone is a great deal better than replacing the dart, which is why Medi-Dart sells the parts individually in the first place. It is reusable equipment with a service life rather than a consumable. Treatment and dosing decisions stay with your veterinarian and the product label.
