Medi-Dart o-ring (MDOR)

Details
This whole system runs on trapped air. The tail section is pressurised with the pump before you go out, and that pressure is what drives the plunger down the barrel once the needle is in the animal. The o-ring is the part that keeps the air where it belongs, and when it goes the symptoms are easy to misread: a dart that will not hold pressure overnight, a barrel that only half empties, or a shot that does nothing at all. Because it is rubber and it is under pressure every time the syringe is charged, this is the one item on a Medi-Dart syringe that is a true consumable. Anyone treating cattle regularly should have a handful in the case rather than a single spare, and it is worth changing one that looks flattened or nicked before it fails rather than after. Castor oil is the lubricant Medi-Dart supplies with its kits, and keeping the o-ring and the barrel lightly oiled will get more life out of both. Dry rubber against a dry barrel wears quickly and seals poorly in cold weather. Fitment is not complicated here, since the same seal is used across the Medi-Dart syringes rather than being specific to the crossbow or the pole. Replace it as part of your routine when you strip the syringe down for cleaning, and check the syringe holds pressure on the bench before it goes in the truck.
