Medi-Dart needle/valve assembly #6 (MDAKH6)
Medi-Dart needle and valve assembly built around the current #6 needle, supplied without a wingnut, for use with the half-moon push rod.
Details
The front end of a Medi-Dart syringe is a small stack of parts that all have to agree with each other: needle, valve, seat and the rod that pushes the ejector ahead when the barrel is empty. Buying them as an assembly removes the guesswork, and this one is built around the #6, the newest and roughest-ridged needle Medi-Dart makes. Before ordering, look at the push rod on your syringe. The #6 is designed to be run with the half-moon push rod, and on a dart still fitted with the plain rod it will not eject the way it should. That single detail accounts for most of the complaints about the newer needle, and it is a cheap part to add at the same time. No wingnut is included with this version. Wingnuts are stocked separately in the two sizes Medi-Dart offers, 13 mm (1/2 in) for cows and bulls and 9.5 mm (3/8 in) for younger cattle up to yearlings, and there is also an assembly that ships with one included if you would rather not order twice. Everything here is reusable. The needle itself is rated at roughly thirty injections on the crossbow and roughly fifty on the extension pole syringe and can be resharpened with a file. What goes through it is a matter for your veterinarian and the product label.
