Anything that has to hold in a moving animal for the second or two it takes a pressurised barrel to empty has to bite. That is the entire job of the ridge on a Medi-Dart needle, and the #4 is the heavy end of the middle range, rougher than the #3 and short of the maximum grades. Producers who have had darts back out early on the lighter numbers generally end up here. It is an intramuscular needle, so the charge leaves through the solid tip. The needles marked Sub-Q are the ones with two ports in the side of the shaft, and the two ranges are not interchangeable just because the grade number matches. Needles are reusable hardware with a service life. Figure roughly thirty uses behind the crossbow and roughly fifty on the extension pole syringe, with a file used sparingly to take a dulled point back to something that penetrates cleanly. Wash and dry after every session and store it capped rather than loose in a toolbox. Fits both the extension syringe and the crossbow dart. Unlike the #6, the #4 does not depend on the half-moon push rod and wingnut combination, so it will run on older darts as they came from the factory. What you are administering and whether it suits the animal is a question for your veterinarian and the product label.
