Medi-Dart needle #2 (MDN2)

A cow standing out on a quarter section with a sore foot does not need to be gathered, sorted and run through a chute to be dealt with, and the Medi-Dart system exists so she does not have to be. This needle is the working end of that system. It carries into the animal, holds long enough for the air pressure behind the plunger to empty the barrel, then comes back out when the ejector pushes ahead and the syringe drops free. The #2 is the lightest of the five grades. Medi-Dart numbers its needles from #2 to #6 by how rough the ridge is, and the rougher the ridge the harder the needle grips while the barrel empties. Being an intramuscular needle it delivers through the solid tip rather than through side ports, which is what separates the IM range from the Sub-Q range in this catalogue. Needles are a reusable part, not a consumable. Medi-Dart puts a needle at roughly fifty injections on the extension pole syringe and around thirty on the crossbow, and a light touch with a file will bring a dulled point back. Clean and dry it between uses, and pull any needle out of service once the ridge is worn smooth or the shaft has taken a set. It fits both the extension pole syringe and the crossbow dart. Note that the #6 is the needle that requires the half-moon push rod and a wingnut to eject properly; the #2 does not. What goes in the barrel, and whether it belongs in muscle at all, is a conversation for your veterinarian and the label of the product you are administering.
