Medi-Dart extension tail section (MDTS)

Nothing about this system works if the tail section is not sound. It is the end of the syringe that holds the air charge put in by the pump, and that trapped pressure is the only thing driving the plunger down the barrel once the needle is in the animal. A tail that will not hold is a syringe that will not treat. This is the extension pole version. Medi-Dart makes separate tail sections for the crossbow dart and the projectile dart, and they are not interchangeable, so check the name against your system before ordering. If you are unsure which you own, the giveaway is how the syringe is delivered rather than how it looks: the pole type is the one that mounts on the telescoping handle. Before you conclude the tail is finished, check the o-ring. A syringe that bleeds down between the shop and the gate is far more often a flat or nicked seal than a failed tail section, and the o-ring is a fraction of the cost. Change that first, oil the parts with castor oil, and see whether the syringe holds overnight. If it does turn out to be the tail, this replaces it without buying a whole new dart. It is reusable equipment rather than a consumable. As with any part of this system, what you administer through it is a matter for your veterinarian and the label of the product.
