The plunger is the moving part in the middle of everything. Air pressure from the tail section acts on one side of it, the contents of the barrel sit on the other, and its travel is what empties the syringe into the animal. When it stops sealing, nothing else in the syringe can make up for it. This is the complete plunger for the extension pole syringe, supplied assembled with its cap rather than as loose components, which saves working out the order on a bench in poor light. Note that the crossbow uses its own plunger, so match the part to the system you are running before ordering. The usual sign that a plunger is due is a barrel that comes back with more left in it than it should. That symptom overlaps with a worn o-ring and with the valve group, so work through them in order of cost. The o-ring first, then the valve parts, then the plunger. A plunger cap that has hardened or scored is easy to spot once you have the syringe apart. Keep the plunger and the inside of the barrel lightly lubricated with castor oil, which is what Medi-Dart supplies with its kits, and both will last considerably longer. This is reusable hardware with a service life rather than a per-shot consumable. Treatment and dosing decisions belong with your veterinarian and the product label.
