Medi-Dart Double Barrel Projectile Syringe
Reusable double barrel Medi-Dart projectile syringe holding up to 30 cc, the current dart design with the improved ejection setup.
Details
Medi-Dart has been in cattlemen's hands in this country for around thirty years, and the double barrel dart is where that experience has ended up. It is the current projectile syringe, holding up to 30 cc and built around the improved ejection arrangement rather than the original design. Ejection is what most of the changes have been about. Once air pressure has driven the plunger through the barrel and the charge is delivered, the push rod pushes the ejector loop ahead, the needle is lifted back out of the animal and the dart falls to the ground where you can retrieve it. A dart that hangs on an animal is a dart you are chasing, so the reliability of that last step is worth more than it sounds. The valve will not deliver a charge below 10 cc, which is a limit of the hardware and not a comment on what should be given. The dart takes the standard Medi-Dart needle range, #2 through #6, in either the intramuscular pattern that discharges through the solid tip or the subcutaneous pattern with two side ports. The current #6 needle needs the half-moon push rod and a wingnut with it, so check what your dart is fitted with before changing needles. It is completely reusable and there is no cost per shot. Strip it down and wash it after every session, keep the barrel and o-ring lightly oiled with castor oil, and confirm it holds pressure before you head out. What you put in the barrel, and whether it is the right approach for the animal, is a decision for your veterinarian and the label of the product.
