Details
One tub, one brush, nothing to decant, and it lives in the grooming box beside the hoof pick where it will actually get picked up. The balm is petroleum-free and has enough body to sit on the hoof wall instead of soaking away into the shavings. Its purpose is holding moisture in the horn so the hoof stays elastic. That matters more here than in a mild climate. A horse standing in wet spring corrals and then walking on baked summer ground goes through a soak-and-dry cycle that opens cracks and loosens nails. Pick and brush the foot out before applying, or you are only sealing dirt against the sole. Work the balm over the wall from the coronet band down, then across the sole and into the frog cleft. Wipe the brush and reseat the lid afterward so the surface does not skin over. A tub this size is roughly a season for one horse if you are honest about keeping to a routine.
