The pound size with a pump on top. Same lanolin balm with aloe vera and vitamins A, D and E, but set up to sit on a shelf in the milkhouse, the calving barn or the shop and get used by whoever walks past. That is the real argument for the pump. A shared tube in a working barn gets dirty fast, because everybody digs into it with the hands they have just been using. One push, rub it in, carry on. In cold weather a tube also goes hard enough to be a nuisance, while a pump keeps dispensing. Fiebing's describes the balm as providing a barrier between skin and the effects of weather extremes — low humidity, heat, cold and wind. Through a western Canadian winter that is not a small consideration for the hands doing chores, let alone for the animals. Keep it somewhere it will not freeze solid; the pump mechanism is the part that objects first. Keep it off a heater too, where it thins out and dispenses faster than you want.
