Snow-Proof has been made since 1904 and does roughly what the name says. Fiebing's describes it as softening, waterproofing, restoring and preserving all smooth leather articles, and notes that it is colourless, odourless and non-greasy. Colourless is the useful part. Most waterproofing pastes darken leather noticeably, and this one is formulated not to add colour, which makes it a reasonable choice for boots and gear where you want the shade left alone. Any paste changes how a finish reads slightly, so try a hidden spot first — the result still depends on the leather. The 85g tin is a boots-and-gloves size. Work it into clean, dry leather with a cloth or your fingers, paying attention to the welt, the seams and the flex creases across the vamp, which is where water actually gets in. Let it absorb, then wipe back anything left sitting on the surface. In this country the useful window is before freeze-up, not after. Leather treated in October handles slush and spring melt far better than leather you remember about in March. Smooth leather only.
