Details
A cosmetic polish for the show ring, not a hoof care product. Fiebing's describes it as water based and non-toxic, safe for both horse and rider, and says it wears off naturally with no harsh chemicals needed to remove it. The black version evens the wall out for a uniform look down the line-up. It comes in a jar with a dauber in the cap. The hoof needs to be clean and dry first — dust, oil or a hoof dressing underneath keeps the polish from sitting flat, so anything applied earlier in the day should be wiped back before you start. Work the dauber down the wall in one direction rather than back and forth. Thin coats, and let each one dry before the next. Thick polish is what chips and flakes on the walk from the trailer to the gate. Do it last, once the horse is otherwise ready and standing on clean footing. Polish applied and then walked through wet grass or a muddy alley is polish you get to do twice. Cap the jar tight, because a water-based product dries out quickly if left open.
