A solid glycerine bar. Wet a sponge or a cloth, rub it across the bar to raise a lather, work it into the leather in circles, then wipe the excess off with a clean damp cloth. Let the leather dry away from a heater and buff it with a soft cloth. Fiebing's describes it as restoring leather to full-bodied suppleness and buffing to a satin finish. The bar has one advantage over the liquids in this climate: it does not freeze and it does not separate. A bar sitting on a shelf in an unheated tack room in February is exactly as usable as it was in July, which is not true of everything on that shelf. Fiebing's also notes that fair and horse show exhibitors often shampoo horses and cattle with glycerine bars for the sheen it leaves on the coat, so this is one of the few products that gets carried from the tack room down to the wash rack. Control how much water is on your sponge. A sopping sponge floods the leather and takes an age to dry; a barely damp one lifts the dirt without soaking the fibres.
