A 25 cm pigtail offset with a wood thread, standing polywire, rope or tape up to 40 mm well clear of an existing post line.
Details
An old fence line is a ready-made row of posts. What it is not is insulated, so the only way to make it carry a hot wire is to put the conductor far enough out that nothing on the old fence can reach it. The pigtail offset does that with a 25 cm arm and a wood thread that drives straight into the post. The curled end takes polywire, rope or tape up to 40 mm, and because it is a pigtail the conductor drops in from the side and lifts out again without unthreading a whole run. Five to the pack. Twenty-five centimetres is enough to keep a live wire clear of a barbed or page wire fence, and enough to hold cattle off the old fence rather than letting them lean on it, which is usually the reason the offset is going in at all. Wind them in with a bit in a drill and check the arm is level and pointing where you want it before the last turn. A pigtail driven past square puts the conductor at a different height than the ones either side, and stock will find the low one.
