Width is the whole point of a 40 mm tape. At just over an inch and a half it reads as a solid barrier from a distance, which is what keeps a horse from walking into a fence it never saw. White against green grass or bare stubble is about as visible as fencing gets, and it stays legible in low light on a fall evening. This is the Basic line, a straightforward working tape on a 200 m roll. Roughly 656 feet is enough to run one strand around a good-sized paddock or to add a second strand to an existing line. It is the tape people use for paddock divisions, foaling pens, temporary strip grazing and anywhere a fence needs to be obvious rather than permanent. Hang it on insulators made for 40 mm tape so the full width is supported and the edges are not pinched. Join runs with a tape connector rather than a knot. A knot in tape crushes the conductors and creates a resistance point that will show up as a weak fence a hundred yards down the line. Add a tensioner on any run over a couple hundred feet.
